One and only question
“…How can I, unless someone guides me?” – Acts 8:31
A certain leader of the Naxalite movement who was looked for by the department of police, Bihar came to meet Bro. Augustine Jebakumar with weapons. He asked for admission for his son in the school run by Brother. As it was the mid-academic year, he could not do anything. So, he asked him to come after three months when it would be the beginning of the next academic year. But the leader could not bear to think of any negative answer. He gave a threat to Brother saying, “Do you know who I am? All get terrified on seeing me.” Brother said to him, “I don’t mind who you are. You think you are very great. But I can go with my wife and children shopping. Can you go out with your family freely on the road?” The leader became indignant and went out of the room. The very next day he came to him in a hurry carrying the weapons. He said, “Brother I lost my peace of mind by your question and I realized how miserable my plight is and I have been hiding in the forests and I am not able even to see my wife and children for months. What shall I do now?” Brother got the opportunity to speak to him about Jesus. At once the terrorist accepted Jesus as his savior.
Putting off his former sinful way of life, he began to lead a new life in Christ. But he was arrested for the murder he committed early in his life. He asked Brother Augustin “How is it that when I was living a life of sin I was not punished. But now when I had repented and started a new life I was arrested?” Brother consoled him quoting the word of God, “For the righteous men will be set right in earth.” After 11 long years of imprisonment, he was released. He came out of the prison with a strong desire to do ministry. He aspired to preach Jesus to others as Brother did to him. He studied Theology and is doing ministry.
The Holy Spirit told Philip to go near and over take the chariot of a eunuch of Ethiopia. So, Philip ran to him and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked him if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch said, “How can I unless someone guides me?” Then Philip preached Jesus to him and the eunuch believed with all heart and got baptized. As the Bible says, “There will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents” In these days we have a lot of responsibilities to be carried out. We must think and act in such a way to turn a sinner from the error of his way and save a soul from spiritual death. It is the great commission given to us. One question could transform a terrorist. If we are in Christ and led by the Holy Spirit even ordinary words spoken by us will have the power to lead the listener to Christ and we will have a share in building God’s kingdom.
