Abigail

 

"A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger" - Proverbs 15:1

 

Who can stop David, who set off with a murderous plan to destroy Nabal and everything he had before dawn? Only David? How to convince everyone who came with David and the crowd of 400 people? Isn't it amazing to read this as a single person, a woman named Abigail who convinced them? In today's message we will see how God uses weak things to do great things in His domain.

 

The meaning of the name Abigail is "joyful". But she may have been unhappy because of her wretched husband, Nabal. But she was seen as an intelligent woman. Abigail is horrified to hear of what her husband Nabal has done to David and acts quickly to make peace with David. First she meets David by sending servants ahead of her in an attitude of hospitality, i.e. feasting on the way. Who descended from donkeys? While David is wondering why they are giving him food and goods, Abigail prostrates herself at David's feet. Abigail softened David's hard heart with her slow, gentle words before identifying herself as Abigail, the wife of Nabal, who had fallen on her face before him. Abigail's words are not mere words. God's truth and grace were found in it. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Abigail's actions calmed not only David, but everyone who came along. The hospitality mixed with love, the heart full of humility, and the soft words full of meekness, all these together brought down the great wall of vengeance and blood-lusting murderousness found in David. Yes, Abigail overcame difficult situations by her character. A wise woman builds her house. (Prov. 14:1) Hallelujah!
