House Sparrow

 

“Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows" - Matt. 10:31

 

It is not a very small bird, nor a strong one; nor is it a strikingly colored bird that stands and marvels. It weighs only 27 to 39 grams! That is, it weighs less than 50 grams. But the words of Jesus in Matthew 10:29 about this insignificant little sparrow make us tremble. Yes, he says, "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? (Very, very, cheap price) Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's will." The price may be cheap. But in the eyes of God, they are precious. The Creator cares about it. The message we need to realize is that they are not considered small in His sight!

 

In Matthew 10:31, the Bible says, “Therefore do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Perhaps you, who are reading this, should not be discouraged when others consider you insignificant in society. There is a God who does not give up on us, saying, “You are of value.” In Psalm 84:3, when David speaks of the sparrow, he marvels, “How the sparrow has found a home near your altars, and the swallow a nest where she can lay her young!” This sparrow found a home in the Lord’s dwelling place.

 

Like this sparrow, Jesus healed the blind, the deaf, the disabled, the lame, and the paralytic on the Sabbath so that the oppressed people would receive mercy and compassion on the Sabbath. May we know that the oppressed people have peace in His dwelling place! The temple of the Lord is a place of eternal joy. It is written, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Not one of them is forgotten by God.” Beloved ones! Isn’t it a great blessing for us that God, who does not forget these little sparrows, remembers and blesses us as more special than them? Even if we are forgotten by the people of this world and our relatives, our God wills that you will not be forgotten by me.

 

Beloved ones! We are not insignificant. We are special in the eyes of the Lord. We do not fall without His will. We do not need to be afraid. He who cares for the little sparrow is also caring for us. "Yes, you are special"! How many lessons have been taught to us through the little sparrow! How many! May your hearts be filled with joy.
