Deer in the Bible

 

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so pants my soul for you, O God" - Psalm 42:1-2

 

The Lord created all kinds of wild animals, creeping things, wild animals, all kinds of water creatures, and all kinds of birds. In Job 12:7, Job says, "Listen to the animals, and they will teach you; listen to the birds of the air, and they will tell you." In this way, we can compare the animals and birds in the Bible with our lives. They teach us some lessons.

 

Now let's see what the Bible says about deer. Zoologists say that there are more than 60 species of deer. The deer can run very fast, up to 60 kilometers per hour, on rugged mountains and high places. In 2 Samuel 2:18, it is written that Asahel was as fast as a deer. David also says, “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me on my high places” when he was saved from all his enemies, including Saul, in 2 Samuel 22:34 and Psalm 18:33. “The Lord God is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, and makes me walk on my high places.” Habakkuk 3:19. This verse shows Habakkuk’s unwavering confidence. May we have such confidence!

 

When David thinks about his time of prayer in the presence of God, he feels as if a thirsty deer is running in search of water. Just as a deer, when thirsty, searches for streams in the forests, wanders to quench its thirst, so too should our souls long for God. May God give each of us a great thirst for fellowship with God, reading the Scriptures, and unceasing prayer! My beloved ones! May such a thirst grow in us day by day, and may it grow into a ministry.
