Sharpness of intellect

 

"...Being of sound mind; when Jesus Christ reveals..." - 1 Peter 1:13

 

The famous English preacher Spurgeon (1834-1892) lived his life with full enthusiasm for God. He became a pastor at the age of 19. He soon preached at a large gospel meeting. He compiled all his sermons himself and published them in 63 editions. He also gave various explanations, books on prayer and many other works. He used to read six books a week. In one of his sermons, he preached, "Doing nothing is the greatest sin. It affects many people. It is a terrible nature. God, save us from this sin of doing nothing." When his friends talk about the preacher Spurgeon, they refer to him as a very intelligent man.

 

In today's meditation, we read about intelligence. Like Spurgeon, many men of God have lived excellent lives with the help of the Spirit of God. Intelligence, that is, a clear mind, is very necessary in public life and in Christianity. “A fool believes every word, but a prudent man considers his steps,” writes Solomon. The foolish do not excel in their walk, that is, in life. Peter, writing in his epistle, gives us advice on the importance of discernment in three different places. (1:13,4:7,5:8)

 

In the Bible, we read about two groups of virgins, the wise and the foolish. The wise were prepared for the coming of the bridegroom with a clear mind. The foolish were aloof and lazy. This is how they fell from grace. Yes, those who are lazy, careless, and sleepy do not have a clear mind. Let us remember Peter’s words: “Be sober and rest your hope fully on the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

 

Beloved in Christ, let us not live by the mindset of "we were born, we lived, we died", but rather strive to live with a clear mind to make life meaningful and beautiful. God is able to help us.
