Do What You Can

 

"She hath done what she could;…" - Mark 14:8

 

While Jesus was at the table in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfumed oil made from pure nard, and she broke it and poured it on his head. But some grumbled about her, saying, "Why was this perfume wasted? It could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." Then Jesus said to them, "Let her alone. Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed to me." Why did he praise her and accept her service? Because of her love for Jesus Christ, she was ready to offer him the best she had. She did what she could.

 

Dorcas was a widow. However, she sewed clothes for many women using her craft of sewing. Because she did what she could for the poor and needy, even after her death, she was resurrected by the prayer of a disciple named Peter. Do you also do what you can to help others? Those who are teachers can help poor students by taking tuition and helping them advance in their education. Even those who cannot do any work can do the ministry of prayer. They can pray for others, for the country, for churches, for workers, for service organizations, and for the salvation of unsaved people. The Lord will surely appreciate it when he says, "She did what she could."

 

In the Bible, the name of the widowed mother who fasted and prayed day and night in the temple was Anna. How blessed she was to see the Lord Jesus Christ as a baby, brought to the temple by Mary, and give thanks to Him. Similarly, He expects us to do what we can for Jesus.

 

Dear brothers and sisters, will you come forward to do what you can for Jesus? Perhaps the work we do may seem small in our eyes, but in the eyes of the Lord it will be great. Therefore, whenever you have an opportunity to help people in need, do it with all your heart. Amen!
