The Great Danger of Evil

 

"Seek good, not evil, that you may live;.." - Amos 5:14

 

A senior minister once shared an incident in his message. There was a long-standing feud and enmity between two towns. One day, a cow went from one town to another. A man from that town caught the cow and skinned it while it was still alive. The cow writhed in pain. It cried out and died. Many years passed. The man who skinned the cow got married and had seven sons. The hands and feet of the seven boys were like the legs of a cow.

 

If a person who does not know the Lord sees what he did to the cow and the Lord responds to it, then do you think that the Lord does not see those who do evil against you who know God and trust in Him completely? because the Bible also says, “He frustrates the plans of the crafty, so that the hands of the crafty cannot succeed” (Job 5:12). So do not be alarmed. In the same way, after the days of Joshua, Judah went to war against the Canaanites at the direction of the Lord. There they captured Adoni-Bezek at Bezek and cut off his thumbs and toes. Although this may seem to have happened by chance, there is also God’s judgment in it. Yes, in Judges 1:7, Adoni-Bezek said: “Seventy kings, having their thumbs and big toes cut off, ate what fell under my table; and God has repaid me for what I have done.” They took him to Jerusalem. The Bible says that he died there.

 

Yes, beloved! Adoni-Bezek did the same thing to the seventy kings. The harm he caused to that mute animal was revealed as God’s judgment on the person who did it. The Bible warns us that evil intentions are sin (Prov. 24:9), and that those who devise evil will fall (Prov. 14:22). Do not imagine evil against someone. Those who devise good will have life and honour. Let us think only of good. Let us receive the blessings of God. Hallelujah!
