Come to the Street

 

"Therefore, they that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word" - Acts 8:4

 

Once a 'life-saving rescue team' was formed to save those who were drowning at sea. In the early days, the work of that rescue team was selfless and very wonderful. After some time, they built large buildings and hung pictures of their achievements on the walls, making themselves proud. The original purpose has changed. This is almost how churches today are seen.

 

Instead of preaching the gospel to people who are trapped in sin and curse and heading straight to hell, today's churches are seen as exhibition halls that boast about what they did in those days. The Lord expects us to go out into the villages and streets to find people and preach the gospel. This is the message that the Lord has been repeatedly impressing on my heart in recent days. Churches must go out into the streets to talk to the Gentiles about Jesus. If churches (and Christians) are not willing to step out, God Himself will bring them to the streets. Preaching the gospel is our duty. We must not forget Paul’s words, “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel.” (1 Cor. 9:16)

 

In the early church, the Christians who were supposed to preach the gospel forgot about it and focused only on praying and teaching the Scriptures. We can see in the verse that the Lord scattered them and sent them to meet the Gentiles and preach the gospel. Yes, in the days when the early church was founded, they thought more about preaching to the Christians within their four walls than meeting the people outside. As a result, severe persecution came to the churches and the churches were scattered. Those who were scattered preached the gospel from everywhere.

 

The Bible tells us that the Lord wants us to meet people directly and minister. God is willing to bring churches to the streets that will not meet with Gentiles but will only minister to Christians. God expects us to go from house to house in the villages and on the streets and proclaim the good news of His love. Will we commit ourselves to doing that?
