Avoid Anger

 

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath" - James 1:19

 

A father was cleaning his new car. At that time, his three-year-old daughter was standing near the car, pretending to be cleaning the car. After a while, she picked up a small stone and scratched something on the car. Seeing this, the father became angry and took a stick lying nearby and hit the child's hand very hard. The child was in pain. The blood was flowing heavily on her hand, so the father, who was worried, took the child to the doctor and saw that the child had a broken bone in her hand. He was heartbroken and hugged the child with tears and apologized. The child immediately took the father to the car and showed him what she had written, "Dad, I Love you so much." The father's heart was broken. Do you know how the act of haste and anger ended?

 

In today's passage, we are told about Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve. Cain and Abel came to offer an offering to God. Cain brought some of the fruits of the ground as an offering to the Lord. Abel brought fat portions from the firstborn of his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his offering but did not accept Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord asked Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has your facial expression changed?" If you do well, will you not be honoured? If you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. God cursed Cain. In Ephesians 4:26, the apostle Paul says, “Be angry, and do not sin.” King Solomon warns us in Proverbs that anger is fleeting. Five minutes of anger can cost us our whole lives. So let us be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. We will receive God’s blessing.
