A Wise Child
"The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him" - Proverbs 23:24
Narianpatti is a beautiful, prosperous village that looks green wherever you look. The river on the border of that village always has water flowing in its banks. Two friends named Jacob and Jones always go to the riverbank after school. They play in the sand of that river with some friends.
At 6 PM sharp, Jones’ mother would call out loudly for him. He would return home with great annoyance and anger. But Jacob, even before his mother could call, would return home on time, finish his homework, and obey his parents cheerfully. Even when Jones got home, he wouldn’t do his homework or obey his mother. This became a daily routine. His mother often cried and prayed for him. The next day they went to play by the riverbank in the same way. At 6 o'clock, Jacob went home and studied the lessons he had learned that day at school and behaved like a wise child. But no matter how much Jones' mother called him, he shouted that he would not come. The pastor, who had been observing this for a few days, came to Jones, put his hand on his shoulder, and asked if he could talk to him for a while and took him away.
I see you every day on this riverbank. Why do you behave like that to your mother? He asked. He replied, "Sir, my mother has no affection for me. She doesn't like me at all. She always tells me to study only. If I ask for something, she won't give it for me. But at Jacob's house, they will take care of him and give him whatever he asks for. The pastor advised that if you obey like Jacob, and put "Jesus" first, and behave like a wise child, everyone will like you. As Jones continued to think, the pastor's words kept speaking to his heart. First, he began to seek Jesus. As soon as he woke up in the morning, he knelt down and prayed. Seeing this, his mother's joy knew no bounds.
Dear brothers and sisters, in this new academic year, may you live as a wise child, dedicate yourself to Jesus Christ, and may the Lord Himself bless you.
