“…but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true…” - John 7:18
When the Israelites were journeying toward Canaan and camped in Moab, King Balak was frightened. He had heard about everything the Lord had done for them thus far. Fearing their victory, he sought to curse them through a prophet. So he sent his officials to call the prophet Balaam. Balaam said he would come only if the Lord allowed, and when God refused, he declined the request. Later, Balak sent even more distinguished officials. Balaam replied, “Even if Balak gave me his palace full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the Lord my God.” Yet, in his heart, he desired to go. Even after God clearly said, “These people are blessed, do not curse them,” Balaam wanted to ask God again, driven by his own desires. Seeing his heart, God said, “Go, but only speak what I tell you.” Balaam rose early the next morning and went which kindled the Lord’s anger (Numbers 22:22)
Yes, this is the situation of many Christians today. Their mouths will speak the word of the Lord and praise Him. But their thoughts and actions will anger Him. This is what God says, “These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honour Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me” (Isaiah 29:13). Many who have experienced Christ’s love and hear His Word still live contrary to it. Some politicians, when they speak, will use flattering words to gain support and gain from the people. In the same way, Christians often live with one word and another deed.
Beloved, it is useless to talk about revival and live like politicians. If everyone who tastes the love of Christ, everyone who reads and listens to His word lives by it, revival will come. The world does not look at the word, it looks at our lives. Even churches that should show love, sometimes show strife and confusion. This is why Jesus Christ said, "Be doers of the word, not hearers of the word only, lest you deceive yourselves" (James 1:22). Let us live according to the word He spoke. Let us inherit the blessings that the Lord has spoken.
