Draw Near..

 

“…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…” - Hebrews 12:1

 

Men look at our outward appearance, but God looks at our heart. Only sin can stain the heart that God sees. What if our heart is dirty, stained, and impure? That is how sin changes our heart. This sin does not come into us only through the actions we do with our hands and feet, but it also comes through the eyes, through the ears, and even through our thoughts.

 

When we think about thoughts, we must realize how close sin is to us! Just start thinking lightly about something wrong, and it will grow beyond our control. We will leave the real world and immerse ourselves in the world of imagination. There are many things within our five fingers that can lead to wrong thinking. Nebuchadnezzar proudly thought, "Isn't this the great Babylon that I built?" and he turned into an animal. David fell into sin by what his eyes saw. Samson, knowing everything, took the honeycomb from the body of a dead lion and ate the honey, and fell into sin. Then he fell into lust. Sin often feels pleasant at first, but it pushes us down so we can’t get back up. It is not the big rock that is visible in the distance, but the small stone lying near our feet that makes us stumble and fall! Similarly, there is a chance that we will fall into small sins like lying, cell phones etc that are close to us.

 

Dear reader, are you careless, thinking, “These are only small sins”? Or do you say, “Yes, sin has come close to me, but I haven’t fallen, just brushed against it a little”? Get away from it now or it will destroy you. Sin that comes close doesn’t just touch you and leave; it climbs on you, takes control, and drowns you. Be alert! Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." (Hebrews 12:1)
