A Vessel Used by God

 

“…but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour” - 2 Tim. 2:20

 

When I was working as an officer in a bank, I used to be transferred every three or four years. I never knew where or when I would be transferred next.But I will pray and hand it over to the Lord. “Lord! Wherever I am, I must be a useful vessel in Your hands”. I would often sing, “I give myself to You, Jesus, this very moment. Wherever You lead me, Lord, there I will gladly go.” But God will always give me a place that is better than I can think of or pray for. I will go to that place praising the Lord for his goodness, for how wonderful the Lord is!

 

In the New Testament of the Bible, Apostle Paul writes this when he writes to Timothy. In a large house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also vessels of wood and earthenware; some of them are of great value and some of little value. Vessels of gold and silver are considered to be of great value because they are made of precious metals. They are kept in a safe, in a treasure room. They are not used much. They are used only during festivals and when relatives come. Such people consider themselves to be precious. They are rarely used by the Lord! But vessels made of earth and wood are used by everyone in common use, and they are cheap! What kind of vessels do we want to be in the hands of the Lord? The Lord chose the foolish to put the wise to shame. He chose the foolish to accomplish the work he wanted through them.

 

Let us each examine ourselves. What kind of vessel do we want to be in the hands of the Lord? Let us dedicate ourselves completely to Him, to become a useful vessel for Him! Let us entrust ourselves to Him to transform us into vessels to fulfill His will. If we are vessels made of clay, let us give Him our heartfelt thanks. For there is a reward for everyone who does the will of God. Just as all those who work at different times in the vineyard receive the same wage, if we do the will of God with joy wherever we are, we will receive the reward in due time. Amen!
