The Power of Prayer
“The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous” - Proverbs 15:29
William Grimshaw was born in England and served as a pastor in a church and in many places. In the town where he lived, a horse race was held every year for a certain number of days. During that time, things like drinking, adultery, and fornication were common. He was very distressed by these immoral things. Sometimes fights would also take place at that place. Among those involved were Christians and the wealthy members of the church. Even when he went there and condemned it as wrong, they did not listen. So, he started praying every day that this race should not be held. The very next year, on the days when the race was supposed to happen, it rained so heavily for an entire week that the event had to be cancelled. Such events did not take place after that. He prevented those artistic performances from taking place through his prayers. There the power of prayer was revealed.
In Acts 10, Cornelius, a centurion, was a praying, godly man. He had accepted God and was saved. But he prayed for his friends and relatives, thinking that they should accept the Lord Jesus, be freed from sin, and be saved. Hearing Cornelius’ prayer, God showed Peter in a vision and asked to summon him. When Peter came and preached, many were filled with the Holy Spirit, spoke in tongues, and accepted Jesus. Surely there must have been a great change in their lives.
Dear Friends, You too can pray for your friends and relatives! You can stop those who live in sin and go to hell with your prayers! and we are obligated to pray powerfully for people addicted to alcohol, for the sick, and for the nations. In order to pray like that, we first need compassion. Let us think for a moment whether we too have compassion like Cornelius. Jesus' compassion was the reason for his ministry success. Let us also realize the power of prayer and pray fervently with compassion. We will see the answer to prayer.
