The Gift Box

 

“…and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him" - Luke 15:20

 

A little girl wanted to give her father a gift for Christmas. After much thought, she decided on a small box. When the father opened it, he saw that it was empty. Slightly irritated, he said, “What is this just an empty box?”. The little girl smiled and said, "Dad, I filled it with lots of kisses and love for you." Before she could finish speaking, tears of joy filled up her father's eyes. Yes, that box remained a cherished memory for the father throughout his life. Even today, our expectations from God are like that father's, expecting a 'box full of gifts'. But God comes to us with His love and affection. Do we appreciate God's love and love Him in return? Or do we complain that He hasn't given us anything? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also graciously give us all things along with Him? (Romans 8:32).

 

We know the parable of the younger son who left his father, lived a wicked life, and then returned home. Are we, like the older brother who was unwilling to enter the house when his younger brother returned, standing outside the door? If so, our Heavenly Father, like that father in the parable, is saying to us, "Everything I have is yours!" Yes, He has given us everything.

 

My dear ones, Christmas is not just about celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ one day a year. True Christmas is about expressing His love throughout our lives. A Christmas without love is like a lamp without light. The state of a Christian without the love of Christ is the same!

 

Christmas is not only about new clothes, gifts, crackers, decorations, and celebrations. What truly pleases God is obeying His command: “Love others as you love yourself. The love, a small smile, and help you show to the less fortunate among you will also bring them joy. Share your love and gifts this Christmas season. May the Lord Himself bless you.
