The Family for the Lord

 

“…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" - Joshua 24:15

 

Throughout the past year, the Lord has guided us and kept us alive. We have stepped into a new year. What resolution have you made this year? Is it like Joshua's resolution: "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord"?

 

When we say "household," resolve that you will teach your children at home to serve the Lord. Psalm 22:30 says that a generation will serve Him; it will be called the Lord's generation for generations to come. For our generation to be blessed, parents must teach their children to serve the Lord. Children must be raised in godliness. We pay a lot of attention to our children's education, but we fail to notice whether they pray or read the Bible. The greatest inheritance we, as parents, can give our children is to teach them the fear of God! If they learn this, wherever they go in the world, they will protect themselves like Joseph and Daniel.

 

A missionary named Siegenbalg came from Sweden to Tharangambadi in Tamil Nadu. The only inheritance his mother gave him was a Bible. He later printed the Bible in Tamil for the first time. He was the first to print it in Tamil.

 

In this new year, like Joshua, dedicate your household to the Lord and make a resolution. I will raise my children in the knowledge of Christ. As an example, I will read the Bible daily. Like Daniel, I will pray at least three times a day, and I will have daily family prayer. In it, I will make my children read the Bible and pray. I will completely dedicate my body, which is my house, to the Lord. This year, resolve to participate in church worship and serve as a family. Then the Lord will bless you, your children, and your generations throughout this year. Amen.
