The Excellence of Prayer

 

“Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer” - Romans 12:12

 

Prayer is opening our hearts and speaking honestly to the Lord and obeying God’s Word as He speaks to us. Prayer is the key that opens God’s treasure house.

 

Brother Emil Jebasingh was a great man of prayer. From the age of 17, when he accepted salvation, he made it his habit to wake up early in the morning, kneel in God’s presence, sing songs, read the Bible, and then pray. He was a great prayer warrior who stood in the gap for the nation with a burden for souls. He served the Lord for about 45 years. He served in the Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB) and later became the founder of the Vishwavani missionary organization. The approximately 135 songs he wrote are filled with a burden for the Indian nation to be touched by God. Even though he has gone to be with the Lord, his songs are still sung throughout India in many languages.

 

Daniel, a man of God, even after knowing that a decree had been signed against him, continued to kneel before his God and pray three times a day, just as he had done before. God sent His angel and shut the mouths of the lions. Through this, King Darius declared that Daniel's God is the "living God."

 

Dear children of God, what is our prayer life like? Do we seek Him in the early morning, or do we only pray for our needs? The Bible says, "If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied" (1 Corinthians 15:19). Even if our circumstances are unfavourable, when we go into His presence and pray, eternal joy will fill our hearts. Tears and worries will disappear. The Lord will grant us grace to live peacefully in this world.
