What is the greatest sin?
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” - 1 John 1:8
Two men came to a pastor. One of them said with sorrow, “I have committed a great sin, and can my sin be forgiven?” The other said, “I have not committed a great sin like him. I have committed many little lies and little dishonest things. Are these really big enough to deserve punishment?” The pastor laughed. He said to the first man, “Go and carry a big rock.” He said to the second man, “Go and carry this sack full of small stones.” They both did so. Now the pastor said, “Okay, both of you, put what you brought back exactly where you took it.”
The first man took the rock and left it where he had taken it and returned. The second man hesitated, "How can I put so many stones exactly where they were?" The pastor said, "It's impossible. Even though he made a big mistake, he cried and asked for forgiveness and was saved. But you, who made a thousand small mistakes, don't even realize that they are sins. You don't even remember who you hurt. Salvation is easy for him. Salvation is very difficult for you," he said.
In the Bible, Samson was foreordained by God before he was born, a terrible warrior. He caught 300 foxes, tied their tails in two, and made a fire chain and destroyed the crops of his enemies. He split the mouth of a lion into twowith bare hands and killed 1,000 people with one jawbone. He was filled with the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
But he forgot who he was. He ignored God’s word and kept falling into sin. Sadly he did not even know that God had left him, but he got up thinking that he had strength as always. Do you know what the end result was? His enemies pulled out his eyes and laughed at him. The mighty warrior died pitifully.
My dear friends, you may say “I do not commit big sins. Small mistakes are not really sins.” But even small carelessness can lead to sin. Knowing that the wages of sin is death, let us throw away sin and run our race looking only to Jesus. Let your eyes be fixed on Christ. Are you ready to meet Jesus, the eternal Judge?
