Duty

 

“…Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?” - Num. 23:12

 

A young man named Augustine had many friends at his workplace who did not know Christ. Many people used to admire him for his way of interacting with everyone without any difference. One day, Augustine heard that one of his friends had met with an accident and was in the hospital. He went there, donated blood, gave some money to help, and returned home. Then, after praying and going to sleep at night, he saw in his dream the sound of a trumpet and many people standing in a line. An angel stood there and was directing, “Go to the right, go to the left.” At that time, those who were going to the right went with joy. There was a great bright light there. Those who were going to the left cried out, “Alas!” Then the angel told Augustine to go to the right. The angel told Augustine's friend to go to the left.

 

The friend told the angel to send him to the left. He said, "He has been with me since childhood, but he has not told me about Christ." Augustine said, "He has not asked me about Christ." The angel said, "You have helped him a lot." Augustine immediately said, "He is my friend, so it is my duty to help him." The angel immediately said, "If you are a child of Christ, and a disciple, it is your duty to tell others about Him." That was the last command that Jesus Christ gave to his disciples before going to heaven. Augustine woke up trembling. He opened the Bible, read it, and prayed, “Lord, tomorrow morning I will tell my friend about You.” The next morning, he went to the hospital, spoke to his friend about Jesus, told him that Jesus heals, and prayed for him.

 

Dear reader, it is our duty to tell others about Christ, as we know Him. Paul, writing to the Corinthians, says, “For though I have preached the gospel, I have no room for boasting; for necessity is laid upon me: woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16). Yes, if you do not tell your friends and relatives about Christ, you will be judged like Augustine’s friend on the day of judgment. So tell your friends and relatives about Jesus today. God will make your efforts successful. Amen.
