A Young Man's Contribution
“…and doeth his will, him he heareth” - John 9:31
When Howard Kelly was a young man, he worked part-time selling things from house to house to pay for his education. One day, he was very tired and knocked on the door of a house and asked for a drink of water. A woman gave him a large glass of milk instead of water. Upon receiving it, Howard said, "I am indebted to you for your kind deed." Even after many years, Howard remembered this incident. After working very hard, he graduated from medical school and worked in a hospital. There, he heard that a woman was seriously ill and was refusing treatment because the medical costs were too high. He immediately went to see the woman. When he saw the woman, he realized that she was the one who had given him milk instead of water, and he offered to pay for her medical expenses. The woman wanted to see the person who paid for her after the treatment. Then Dr. Howard Kelly said with a smile, "Thank you for a glass of milk." The worldly people respond to the debt of gratitude as a contribution. As children of the Lord, we cannot repay the countless blessings that Jesus Christ has bestowed upon us. But we are obligated to do our part.
In John 9, Jesus Christ performed a miracle by healing the eyes of a young man who was blind from birth. After receiving his sight, the man boldly told others about Jesus. He was not afraid to speak the truth, even when people questioned him. When they asked him how he had been healed, a man named Jesus made slush with mud and applied in his eyes and said to him, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam." So I went and washed, and I received my sight. But the parents of the man who had received his sight said, "We do not know who healed his eyes." It is written that they said this because they were afraid of the Jews. The man who had seen boldly said, "He opened my eyes, and yet you do not know where he is from." We see that he was cast out because he had testified about Jesus. Jesus saw his contribution, came to him, spoke to him, and revealed himself. The man who had seen surrendered himself completely, believed in him, and worshipped him. The incident in this passage clearly explains to us that He notices how we give our contribution to Him. The greater the contribution we give, the greater the reward we will surely receive in this world and the next.
