A Model Life
"Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake." - Psalm 69:6
Nirmala was working in a company. Though she had all the qualifications for a promotion, she waited patiently for the right time, since promotions were given only once every three years. Eventually, that moment arrived. Many employees were transferred, and many received promotions; however, Nirmala did not receive a promotion. Instead, Mary was appointed to that position. It was only when Nirmala inquired how Mary who lacked the necessary experience for the role had been appointed, that she discovered the truth: the position had been purchased through a substantial monetary bribe. This deeply hurt Nirmala. She went home and cried, saying, “Even Christians are like this they say one thing but do another.” Because of this, she developed a dislike towards Christians.
The world expects truthfulness and a life of authentic witness from Christians. Yet, we often forget that living as witnesses and thereby contributing our share to the building of God's Kingdom is our fundamental calling.
After His resurrection, Jesus instructed His disciples to wait, promising them: "When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and become My witnesses." True to this promise, it was only after the disciples received the Holy Spirit and began living lives of witness that they came to be known as "Christians." But today, many treat Christianity like a label: wear it when convenient, set it aside when not needed and live like the world instead of reflecting Christ.
Many people, despite reading the Scriptures and professing their love for Jesus, fail to live as true Christians. A spiritual revival occurred in the early church precisely because the disciples’ lived lives of authentic witness. The reason revival remains elusive today is the absence of such a life of witness among us. When offering counsel to Timothy, Paul instructs him to be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. He emphasizes this specific instruction so that "no one may despise you."
Dear reader, let us examine ourselves. Let us ensure that our lives do not become a stumbling block for anyone. As Paul advised, let us live in such a way that we reveal God in every aspect in our words and in our conduct. Our God awaits us with our rewards, declaring, "My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work." As a worthy contribution to Him, let us reveal Him to others through our lives. May our lives reflect Christ even more than the words we speak. Let us live as His representatives and thereby receive His blessings.
