“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men" - Proverbs 22:29
Our former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, was born in a small village in Rameswaram. Even while he was still in school, he supported his family by delivering newspapers on his bicycle from house to house. Through his hard work, honesty, enthusiasm, and disciplined use of his youth, he lived out the truth of the Biblical principle: “The hand of the diligent will rule.” In time, he rose to become a great scientist and eventually the President of India.
Joseph served as a slave in the household of an Egyptian named Potiphar. However, observing his hard work, integrity, and godliness, Potiphar promoted him to be the overseer of his household and entrusted everything he owned into his care. For Joseph's sake, the Lord blessed that Egyptian's home. Later, Joseph was elevated to become a high-ranking official over the entire land of Egypt. Jesus Christ ministered in this world for only three and a half years. In John 4:34, He declared, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work." In John 17:4, He proclaimed triumphantly, "I have finished the work which You have given Me to do."
We must complete the work we undertake with faithfulness, integrity, and efficiency, and within the allotted time. A person who is careless in their work is like a companion to destruction. Cursed is the one who does the Lord's work with negligence. Therefore, those engaged in God's service must not perform it half-heartedly; rather, they must exercise great diligence discerning God's will and acting in accordance with it. Students, in particular, must be diligent in completing the homework assigned by their teachers without delay, and in studying their lessons promptly. Such diligence will enable them to secure high marks, paving the way for admission into higher education and, subsequently, for obtaining prestigious employment in the future. When we conduct ourselves in this manner, God will exalt and bless us. Therefore, do not be careless, instead be diligent, be fervent in spirit, and serve the Lord wholeheartedly.
