Worries Turned into Praise
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” - Exodus 14:14
The people of Israel had been enslaved in Egypt for over 400 years. The Egyptians appointed taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with hard labour, day and night. The children of Israel were also subjected to harsh labour. God chose Moses to deliver them from this plight. However, Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened. Consequently, God performed astonishing miracles right before the eyes of the Egyptians through ten plagues. As a result, Pharaoh finally released the people of Israel. The Israelites departed from the land of Egypt, marching out in organized groups.
As they journeyed, they came to a difficult situation. In front of them was the Red Sea, and behind them, the Egyptian army was pursuing them. Fear gripped their hearts, and they began to complain to Moses: “Were there no graves in Egypt that you brought us here to die in the wilderness? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die here!” Then Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Moses raised the staff he held in his hand and stretched it out over the sea. Instantly, the sea parted in two. The entire multitude of people walked right through the middle of the Red Sea on dry ground. After everyone had crossed over, the Egyptian forces entered the midst of the Red Sea. At that moment, the Lord caused the Red Sea to close in. The entire Egyptian army was submerged in the sea; not a single person escaped. After this great victory, Miriam the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand. All the women of Israel joined together to sing praises to God.
In our lives, when we walk along the path where God leads us, He will take care of whatever hardships, tribulations, or problems may arise. It is sufficient for us simply to remain still; the Lord Himself will fight our battles for us. We need only to place our faith in Him who goes before us and move forward. As we do so, all the turmoil within our hearts will be transformed into praise.
