Do Not Neglect

 

"Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy…" - 1 Timothy 4:14

 

Every day, a grandfather would look at his grandson and encourage him : "Son, you must study hard and become a high-ranking officer i.e. an IPS officer in the future." You can certainly achieve this. Whenever others looked at the boy and remarked, "You look exactly like a police officer," his heart would swell with joy, and a sense of boldness would rise within him. However, when he looked at his own life, filled with hardships and struggles he would lose hope and become discouraged, telling himself, "There is absolutely no chance for any of this to happen." Although he possessed the aptitude to become an IPS officer, the discouragement that had taken root in his heart convinced him that it would never happen, causing him to lose hope and neglect his potential.

 

Similarly, in the Scriptures, 1 Timothy 4:14 states: "Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you." In this very manner, when ministers lay their hands upon us and pray, they are filled with the Spirit of God and speak prophetic words to us. We listen to these words with great enthusiasm. Yet, later, when we look at our current circumstances, we dismiss those words, thinking, "It is impossible for any of that to come to pass." Without giving it a second thought, we become negligent and allow the promise to slip away. As it is written in Numbers 23:19: "God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind. Has He said, and will He not do it?" It asks, "Having spoken, would He fail to fulfill it?"

 

Dear readers, let us not be negligent regarding the words of promise and the gifts that God has bestowed upon us; rather, let us hold fast to them and pray faithfully and earnestly every day. God will surely bring them to pass in our lives at the appointed time. Therefore, let us firmly hold onto His Word, step forward to accomplish great things for Jesus in our lives, and live zealously for Him.
