The Hornless Goat and the Horned Goat
"The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother." - Proverbs 29:15
Hello, kids! Do any of you have goats at home? Do you like little goats? Okay, kids, shall we go into our story now?
Balu and Rajan lived in neighbouring houses. Both men were farmers who supported their families through agriculture. Each of them raised a goat. Now, Balu's goat had no horns at all. Rajan's goat, however, possessed a pair of sturdy, formidable horns. Rajan often made fun of Balu’s goat because it had no horns. But Balu took special care of his goat. He would always tie a rope around its neck and take it along wherever he went. Rajan's goat, meanwhile, would roam majestically all around the village. Balu's goat longed to roam freely just like Rajan's goat, but Balu simply would not let it go out on its own. Consequently, the goat grew weary from constantly tugging and straining against the rope tied around its neck. Balu would simply keep it tied up at home. Rajan's goat, in contrast, would strut past Balu's goat with an air of majesty and swagger.
Days passed…
One day, while Balu's goat was grazing, Rajan's goat came limping down the path. It was bleeding profusely, with both of its horns and one of its legs broken. The people following behind it were scolding Rajan, saying, "Rajan clearly doesn't know how to raise a goat properly, because he let it roam wherever it pleased, we don't even know whose field it wandered into. Look at the result someone has broken its horns and its leg!" Upon hearing this, Balu’s goat breathed a sigh of relief, realizing, "Ah! My master has tied me up like this solely for my own well-being."
Dear Children, did you see that? Did you observe the plight of the goat that wandered about doing exactly as it pleased? Don't you, too, feel terribly angry when your parents correct or discipline you? Do you ever feel irritated, thinking, "Everyone else is having such a blast roaming around freely, yet my mom keeps telling me to stay cooped up inside the house all the time"? All of that every single bit of it is for your own good, dear kids. From now on, whatever your parents say, you must obey them without question. Okay?
