Be Faithful

 

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings:…” - Proverbs 28:20

 

A minister used to travel by bus every day to visit villages and carry out his ministry. Consequently, he became well-acquainted with the bus driver and conductor. One day, the minister handed the conductor money to purchase a ticket. The conductor issued the ticket and returned the balance; however, there was an excess of 50 rupees in the money given back. The minister felt a moment of delight. But the very next instant, as the verse “A faithful man will abound with blessings...” (Proverbs 28:20) came to his mind, he returned the 50 rupees to the conductor. Smiling, the conductor remarked, “People often say that Christians are faithful. I gave you the extra money just to see what kind of person you are.”

 

In much the same way, the people of this world recognize us as Christians and put us to the test. If we look at the life of Job, we see that Satan sets his sights upon him. The Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant, Job?” and bore witness concerning him, describing Job as a blameless and upright man who fears God and shuns evil. Immediately, Satan retorted, “Stretch out Your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and surely he will curse You to Your face!” The Lord replied to Satan, “Very well, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.” True to this, in a single day, Satan stripped Job of everything, his children, his wealth, and his servants. Job neither sinned nor did he find fault with God. Subsequently, having obtained permission to touch Job's body, Satan afflicted him with painful sores from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet. Yet, Job did not sin with his lips. Indeed, he remained steadfast in his integrity. When God bore witness concerning Job, He described him first and foremost as a man of integrity. Job received back double of everything he had lost.

 

Dear All, we too must remain faithful in our lives both before God and before our fellow human beings. Then, God Himself will bear witness concerning us. Even if we experience losses, He will grant us the grace to recover them and indeed, to receive back double. Let us remain faithful and receive a double portion of blessings.
