A Contribution to God
“…And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:…” - Acts 9:5
A sister, who came from a family that did not know God, faced numerous struggles and problems in her life. When her husband suddenly fell ill and passed away, she felt utterly alone, as if she had no one left in the world and decided to end her life. One day, while she sat inside her locked home weeping overwhelmed by exhaustion and the thought that there was no one to love or help her and then she heard a voice. The voice said: “May goodness and grace be yours through Jesus Christ and God the Father.” Filled with fear and with tears still streaming from her eyes, she looked around, wondering where the voice was coming from. When she inquired with those nearby, they told her that these were the very words of God, written in the Bible. She then began visiting a nearby church to learn more about Jesus. Realizing that Jesus had come seeking her even as she languished in her loneliness she surrendered herself completely to Him and began to engage in God’s ministry. The Lord transformed her life into a blessing.
Similarly, in the Scriptures specifically in Acts 9:1–27 we read of Saul, who terrorized and persecuted the disciples of Jesus, seeking to destroy the Church. He attempted to arrest those who followed Jesus and have them thrown into prison. One day, while he was traveling toward the city of Damascus, a sudden light from heaven flashed all around him, and Saul fell to the ground. Then a voice called out: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me? I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting; it is hard for you to kick against the goads.” Saul remained without sight for three days, neither eating nor drinking. Saul humbled himself before the Lord, asking, "What do You want me to do?" Saul’s heart was transformed, and he became Paul. The very man who once opposed Jesus went on to spread the Good News. The letters he authored hold a prominent place within the Holy Bible. At the end of his life, he declared, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Having fully dedicated his life to Jesus, he ultimately died as a martyr for His sake.
Dear all, when the voice of the Lord called out to Saul, he humbled himself. Likewise, when the Lord’s voice calls out to us, we too must humble ourselves and surrender our lives to Him. When we pray, "O Lord, open my eyes; let the scales of sin fall away from me," the Lord will transform the bitterness of our lives much like the bitter waters of Marah into sweetness.
