Jesus First

 

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness…” - Matthew 6:33

 

An emperor was traveling to his palace with a chest filled with jewellery and precious stones. He was seated on an elephant, surrounded by guards and ministers for his protection. Suddenly, the elephant stumbled, causing the chest to slip and fall to the ground. The chest burst open, scattering its contents; gold coins and precious pearls rolled in all directions. Everyone stood frozen, unsure of what the king would order. The king was a kind and generous ruler. After a moment's thought, he said, "It is all yours. Take whatever you wish." The guards and ministers scrambled about, gathering the scattered treasures. Then, the king’s look fell upon a guard standing right beside him. The guard had not once taken his eyes off the king, nor had he loosened his grip on his spear. The king was astonished. "Do you not wish to take these precious items for your family?" he asked.

 

"Your Majesty, everyone else has their eyes fixed on the jewels. What if someone were to harm you while no one was watching? That is why I kept my eyes on you. You are far more precious than these jewels," the guard replied. Overjoyed, the king promoted him to the position of his personal bodyguard and gifted him the jewellery, diamonds, and pearls.

 

Dear Children of God, what do we prioritize in our lives today? That servant’s eyes were fixed upon his king. Upon what or whom are our eyes fixed today? Are we running after the blessings of this world, or is our look upon God? What does our heart pursue day by day? If an earthly king could grant that servant a promotion along with gold and silver, how much more certain it is that Jesus, our King, will bestow upon us all that pertains to life and eternal life itself! Therefore, let us fix our eyes on Jesus. Let us give Him the first place. May the Lord Himself bless you!
