In Whom Do We Place Our Trust?

 

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD,..” - Jeremiah 17:7

 

When Saddam Hussein, the former President of Iraq, was being led to his execution, American soldiers asked him what his final wish was. Saddam Hussein calmly replied, "Give me my coat; I want to wear it." His coat was given to him as requested. A soldier, observing this, asked in surprise, "Why are you putting on a coat now?" Saddam’s reply gave many people food for thought: "It is very cold today. If I start shivering from the cold, the people of Iraq might think that their leader is trembling in fear of death." Even in the final moments of his life, he wanted to uphold his dignity and confidence.

 

A similar incident is recorded in the Bible. In those days, a war was being fought between the people of Israel and the Philistines. There was a mighty warrior named Goliath from Gath; he stood six cubits and a span tall. Armed with massive weapons, he shouted a challenge to the armies of Israel: "Let one of you come and fight me." Consequently, the Israelite soldiers were terrified of him. At that moment, a young shepherd named David arrived. David had no sword, no armour, and no heavy weaponry. Yet, he possessed faith in the Lord. David said to Goliath, "You come to me with a sword and a spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts." David took a stone, placed it in his sling, whirled it around, and cast it. The stone struck Goliath on the forehead, and he fell to the ground. Thus, young David overcame the mighty Goliath.

 

Dear friends, many people in this world live without faith in God. Some place their trust in themselves, while others rely on their children, relatives, wealth, or positions. However, no matter how difficult the situation may be, if we place our trust in our God, victory is certain. He will never forsake those who believe in Him; He is able to lead us all the way to eternal life.
