They Were Unaware
“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” - Matthew 24:37
When our Lord Jesus Christ returns for the second time, the world will be just as it was in the days of Noah. In Matthew 24:38, the Lord describes the nature of those days. First, people were eating and drinking. This refers to a part of daily life; the mention of "drinking" here refers to the act of consuming beverages as part of a meal, not to the consumption of alcohol. Next, when the Lord speaks of "marrying and giving in marriage" in the same verse, He is referring to the institution of marriage, not to sins like sexual immorality.
In other words, during the days of Noah, people were occupied with innocent activities like daily living, eating, and marriage. However, they did not seek God, their Creator, in their lives. They did not give Him the first place.
Dear friends, we too can face the same danger. We may become so focused on everyday matters, such as food, work, family, and marriage, that we neglect our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and fail to make Him the centre of our lives. This passage reminds us to give the Lord the first place in every situation of our lives.
