Make Jesus Happy

 

“My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me” - Proverbs 27:11

 

The clattering sound of galloping horses, the roar of the crowd, the sweet melody of music, colorful garlands catching the eye, and guards standing watch at the entrance, the entire palace was ablaze with light and splendor. You might be wondering where this was; it was the palace of King Herod.

 

It was King Herod's birthday, and many guests and important VIPs were seated at the banquet with him. A young girl arrived, dressed in glittering attire with ankle bells, and danced beautifully. Her dance captivated everyone; they were amazed and praised her. Overjoyed, the King told her, "What gift do you want? Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, even up to half of my kingdom."

 

Hearing this, the young girl ran to her mother to ask what gift she should request. Her mother immediately told her to ask for the head of John the Baptist. Without questioning her mother "No Mom, why ask for a murder on such a special day? The Lord wouldn't like that", the girl went to the King and asked for the servant's head, just as her mother had instructed. Left with no other choice, the King ordered the head to be cut off and given to her. The King's heart, previously joyful, was filled with sorrow. The girl, who had delighted everyone there with her talent, did not know how to please God.
