A Hole in the Wall

 

"…be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer" - 1 Peter 4:7

 

A wealthy businessman kept a large amount of money in his house. A thief, aware of this, would come every night intending to steal the house. However, he would always return empty-handed because a high wall surrounded the property. One day, he went to the house as usual and discovered a hole in the wall, through which he managed to slip inside. By this time, his intention was no longer to steal; he was struck by curiosity. He wondered how a protective wall existed only at night and why, surprisingly, there was a hole in it on this particular night. He wanted to uncover the truth behind this.

 

So, he woke the merchant from his sleep and asked about his doubts. The merchant thought for a moment and said, "Every night, I pray to Jesus to protect both me and my possessions. But tonight, being extremely exhausted, I forgot to pray; I simply fell into bed and went straight to sleep." The thief was deeply touched by the power of Jesus Christ.

 

Beloved people of God, look here: how long did the protective wall around the merchant's house exist? It remained there as long as the merchant continued to pray. When did the hole in the wall appear? It appeared when he forgot to pray. Indeed, if you read the first chapter of the Book of Job, you see Satan (the thief) appearing before God. God asks Satan (the thief) where he has come from, and he replies that he has been roaming about. God then asks, "Did you go to the house of My servant Job?" Satan responds, "You have put a hedge of protection around him and everything he owns."

 

As long as we pray, God grants great protection to us and our possessions. When we grow weary in prayer, that protection diminishes. It was only when Moses prayed that the Israelites and Joshua received God's help. Joshua's army... They defeated the Amalekites. However, the Amalekites gained the upper hand whenever Moses’ prayer faltered (Exodus 17:12-15). Therefore, beloved people, be diligent in prayer. May the Lord Himself bless you!
