Good testimony

 

“For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.” – 2 Corinthians 10:18 

 

The names of thousands of characters are found in the Bible. We read about their way of living and the main characteristics of many major characters. But the Lord had testified only a few of them and they received good testimony from God. Noah was the first and foremost figure to receive such good commendation from the Lord. God certifies that “I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation.” Do you know under what circumstances Noah received this commendation? Those were the days when the wickedness of man was great in the earth and it was corrupt and filled with violence. The intent of the thought of the people’s heart was only evil continually. While living amidst such people who had corrupted their way, he was just and perfect till the end. 

 

In the same way Jacob in his old age was moved by the Holy Spirit and prophesied blessings over his twelve sons. Joseph was given a testimony that, “Joseph is a fruitful vine.” Without falling into sin and withering, he was yielding a bounty of good fruits. Yes, Joseph was alone and he faced great temptation at the words of Potiphar’s wife but he resisted and took victory over sin and he remained righteous. He said, “How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” The circumstances were highly favourable for him to sin but he kept himself holy. So, Joseph was promoted to second in command and given authority over all the land of Egypt.

 

Children of God! Can God give such good testimony about us? People may applaud us watching our outward appearance and deeds. But God understands us very well as he searches our heart and tests our minds. Can the Lord give a good testimony about us? 

 

Those who obtained good testimony from God namely Noah and Joseph lived up to God’s expectations and kept their witness. An average student will say, “As all my classmates had done it, I also did it.” Though Lotus grows in mud water, water can not stick on the leaves. The droplets will role on the surface of the leaf without wetting it. Thus, even if we are surrounded by sinful situations, we can live a holy life and get good testimony with the help of the Holy Spirit. Shall we try for it?
