Garbage truck
“He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his peace.” - Proverbs 11:12
On an occasion Philip hired a taxi to continue his journey. The cab driver was driving straight on. Suddenly a black car drove into the taxi. The taxi driver handled the situation so skillfully to avoid collision. It was really a narrow escape from death. But the man in the black car began to yell and rail at the taxi driver. The taxi driver waved to him with a smile and continued to drive as if nothing had occurred. Philip was infuriated. He put forth an array of questions such as, “Why did you let him go without retaliating? It was his fault, wasn’t it? Why didn’t you rebuke him?” The driver remained composed saying,” Many people are like garbage truck that carries waste materials. Their hearts are loaded with disappointments, wrath and dejection. They carry the rubbish harbored in their hearts and wait to throw it on someone just like garbage truck that empties it somewhere. Sometimes the trash falls on us. We need not take it to heart. Moreover, we should not take the rubbish to our home or workplace and strew the trash all over. Let us forget all about it then and there.”
When king David and all the mighty men and all his people went along the road, a man from the family of the house of Saul named Shimei cursed David, threw stones at him and kicked up dust as he abhorred David. Abishai was ready to take off his head. But David let Shimei curse him as he knew that the lord had ordered him to do so. He was sure that the Lord would repay him with good.
How weary we are after hearing the curses and abuse hurled on us by others at the workplace! We think deeply about the unpleasant event and the insult thrown at us when we were innocent and in no way connected to it. Just as the taxi driver stated, we got caught by them, when they were about to throw out the waste. Stop worrying. Don’t think that we alone encounter such bitter situations. The Holy Bible says “He who despises his neighbor lacks sense. But a man of understanding keeps silence.” If someone shouts at us, let us receive the scolding with a smile and delete it from our memory. Instead of agonizing, let us start praying for that person. Suppose we are insulted by our own family member, instead of quarrelling and wasting a precious day, let us forgive that person and show our love in action. Let us enjoy the pleasant day given by God.
