Sudden attack
“…God resists the proud…” –1 Peter 5:5
D.L. Moody, the well-known evangelist had been to London to preach in a crusade. After preaching, he left the stage and was getting down the stairs. A certain gentleman rushed to Moody and shook hands with him and remarked that his sermon was very impressive. At once Moody replied that he was the second person to felicitate him. The gentle man wondered who that person could be and asked Moody who felicitated him first. Moody stated that before he could get off the stage satan whispered in his ears saying, “Sir Moody todays preaching is superb.”
In the Holy Bible, apostle Peter writes “God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.” When we live upon the earth, whatever we possess are given by God and we have received them by His grace. So, we must beware of saying that it is our power and the might of our hand have gained us this wealth. It is the Lord who gives us power to get wealth. Let us not give room to pride in our lives.
Beloved friends we encounter trials and temptations in our Christian life. We face testing time as well. Each trial or temptation is more or less like a battle. But when we win the battle, we need to be more careful and more vigilant than we were before victory. In fact, we have to double up on our watch fulness because at times the joy of victory may result in pride that becomes a hidden snare to make us fall. We must remember, that satan awaits opportunities to get us entangled in unseen snares of sins such as envy and pride. So, let us be watchful and flee from the hidden traps
