Unmissable target

“…we know that all things work together for good to those who love God…” – Romans 8:28

“Who will volunteer to share the love of Jesus among the lepers” was a challenging question put forth. A youth in the crowd raised his hand and came forward to express his willingness to serve among the lepers. The youth strived hard for ten years. But the people rejected the youth. They ignored God’s love and denied Christ. Being dejected, he decided to go back to his place by ship. When he boarded the ship, the captain discovered that the youth had developed signs of leprosy. The youth cried out bitterly saying, “These people for whom I ministered, rejected me. How can my own people accept me when I had contracted leprosy?” A certain man heard his cry and informed his villagers about him. Soon all the villagers gathered on the sea shore. They regretted that he had contracted leprosy. But the youth preached the love of God, brushing aside his illness. Thus, the entire village accepted Jesus as their savior.

Paul and the other prisoners were sent to Rome by ship. The ship was tossed by the tempest. The ship wrecked because of the violent storm. They were stranded on an island named Malta. The natives of the island showed them unusual kindness. They kindled a fire and made them all welcome because of rain and cold. When Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened on his hand. The natives remarked that Paul was a murderer and justice did not allow him to live inspite of his escape from sea. They expected him to swell and fall down dead. But Paul shook off the viper into the fire and suffered no harm. On seeing the miracle, they changed their minds. The leading citizen of the island received them and entertained them courteously for three days. The natives tasted the love of Jesus through Paul’s healing ministry. Thus, he reached his goal.

Beloved in Christ, do we feel disheartened by the occurrences in our lives and the rude remarks and insults by others? We should not grow weary. God let such things pass only for our good. Sometimes, God’s name is glorified by the events happen in our lives. We must remember that all things work for our good. We may confront problems and unfavorable situations but they all come to a good end. Although the youth was forsaken by the people whom he ministered, he was ready to share the gospel to the people who came to him. Paul did not bother about the rude remarks of the natives. He availed the opportunity to build the kingdom of God. What is our goal in life? Do we make all out efforts to reach our goal? Do we retreat or advance in our efforts? If we are marching onward, we can build God’s kingdom. “No turning back, no turning back.”
