“It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth;” – Mark 4:31
You might have heard about plant seeds and seen some of them. Mustard seed is so common that it is known and seen by everyone. No wonder that it finds a place in the Indian spice box. In today’s devotion we are going to meet a mustard seed. Come let us listen to what it says.
Hello friends, I am a mustard seed. The proverb says, “Mustard seed is small but it is still too spicy. Yes, my size does not indicate my power. Do not judge me by my outward appearance. I have my own special and specific features. Please stay with me.
I was made by the Lord God who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Christ Jesus has spoken of my nature in the gospels. The Lord said to His disciples, “If you have faith as a mustard seed…nothing will be impossible for you.” Beloved, it is good; you read and meditate on the word of God. You are familiar with the content of the Bible. But you are faithless. That is why Jesus rebuked the people for their unbelief saying, “You of little faith!” Why did you doubt? So, you have to believe to see miracles.
Moreover, Jesus compares me to the Kingdom of heaven. He points out to me saying, “The kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed.” I am so elated to be remembered by God. Look, I am smaller than all the seeds and I am sown in the fields. But when I grow, I am greater than the herbs and become a tree and birds of the air come and lodge in my branches. Just like me, when you commit yourself to do God’s work and if you are sown for God, you will be transformed into a vessel of blessing to thousands. When this message was preached at the cottage prayer held in a missionary field, a certain lady named Chellammal, with little education was touched and she dedicated herself to God and His ministry. Later she became the founder of a church with a big congregation. The beginning of your life may be humble but believe that your future will be prosperous and useful to others. Then you will be used to do greater things for the Kingdom of God.
