Sweet solitude
“…pray to your Father who is in the secret place and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” – Matthew 6:6
Except Ashok, all the others were busy getting ready to go for work in his house. Ashok was very particular in keeping his mobile battery fully charged. His father said to him, “Hey, Ashok be a responsible son; Don’t while away the time. Try to live up to our expectations. Put in extra efforts to get through the IAS exam” and then he left for work. Unmindful of his advice, he spent his time browsing the statuses and seeing the updates in WhatsApp and on face book. His time was wasted on useless things. Thus, the thinking capacity of his brain got decreased. Though he was brilliant in his school days, he could not fare well in the exam. He forgot all about his responsibility towards his family and society. In his solitude, he failed to concentrate on the vital things. So, his loneliness led him straight to evil activities.
David in his solitude, walked on the roof of the king’s house and was enticed by the lust of his flesh. When he confessed his sin openly, he was restored. When Samson was alone, instead of looking up to the Lord, he looked around and fell prey to sin. He was trapped by a woman. We may not have committed such abominable sin but we tend to become slaves to the illusionary world shown in the mobile phone. But Joseph in his solitude resisted temptation and demonstrated his great zeal for God that led him to a tremendous victory.
Friends, when we are alone, 10-digit mobile phone should not be our identity. We must get into the habit of calling upon the name of Jesus in our solitude. Jesus says that we should pray to God who is in the secret place. So, let us put the mobile away and get connected to God. Then we will understand our liability. Feeling of emptiness will be filled with the presence of God. Solitude without God will lead our heart to sin. If our lonely hours are spent with God, those hours of solitude will be a delightful time. Let us take a resolution today to seek God and to be always with Him, when we are lonesome.
