God’s choosing 

“…you shall anoint for me the one I name to you.” – 1Samuel 16:3

Method of selection differs from person to person. God’s choosing is his selection. His selection process is unique. It is not as men’s choosing. During police and military recruitment, selection is based on the physical fitness and the performance of the candidate in the written exam. This is done according to the overview of the world. But our Lord’s choosing is marvelous. It is incomprehensible to man’s brain and it is loftier than the thoughts of man. 

The Lord told Samuel to go to Jesse, the Bethlehemite as He had chosen a King among his sons. Accordingly, he went to Bethlehem. Looking at the fine physique of Eliab, a brave warrior and the eldest son of Jesse, Samuel guessed wrong that he was the Lord’s anointed. The Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at the appearance and at his physical stature because I have rejected him for the Lord does not see as man sees for man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.” So, Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. None of them was chosen by the Lord. Then Samuel asked Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Only then David who was taking care of the sheep was brought in. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” What a distinct difference in God’s way of choosing! One who was rejected by his family and brothers was the elect of God. 

Dear servants of God, we, who were rejected by the world like David are chosen for the glorious ministry and anointed to proclaim the excellency of Him who called us. When a responsibility is assigned to a person the world looks at his outward appearance, eloquence, adornment, demeanor, gait, attire and expression. But the Lord looks on the heart that is well pleased to Him. David was a man after God’s own heart. Let us all be men who are well pleased to God like David. Understanding His grace on His elect, let the ministry be done with integrity, bearing witness and yielding good fruit.
