Magnificence of fear of God
“Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways” - Psalm 128:1
In this world most of the people live in fear of men. Such people seem to be good and submissive and they do eye service. But when they are left alone unnoticed, their nature and behavior will be completely contradictory. But those who live with fear of God are totally different. Their nature is the same whether noticed or unnoticed. It is possible, as they walk in the way of God with reverence and fear.
In Genesis 42:18 we read about a man who states for certain “I fear God”. Yes, it was Joseph. He kept his word and his fear of God was revealed in his deeds in every phase of his life. Living in a foreign country, without anyone to appreciate his good work and to admonish for going astray and at an age that longed for love, he was pursued by Pothibar’s wife. As he revered God and felt His presence, he fled from the advantageous situation saying no to her temptation. Samson and David who were specially anointed were ensnared by adultery but Joseph an ordinary youth was triumphant. Uriah’s wife kept silent as the invitation for the issue was from the King. But Joseph was not influenced by her power and authority. He did not mind getting caught by men as his garment was kept as a proof. He felt that staying in the prison and remaining sinless is braver than staying in the room and committing sin. He resolved to present his body and soul holy and acceptable to God. Hats off to Joseph who comes to our minds eye as a blessed man whose fear and reverence for God made him flee from sin.
Beloved, it is not those who live in fear of men but those who live in fear of God is richly blessed. According to Psalm 128, the labor of his hand will be blessed. His wife shall be like a fruitful vine and children like olive plants and they will yield fruits. This is how the family of those who fear the Lord will be blessed with the best blessings in the heavenly places in Christ. If we long to enjoy such blessings let us live fear of God in all circumstances. God blesses!
