Where is Ebed – Melech?

 

“Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our god” - 2 Samuel 10:12

  

Kumar accepted Christ Jesus as his savior at the age of 17 amid strong opposition. Then he began to share the love of Jesus to his relatives, friends and well wishers. Some of them listened to him attentively but most of them rebuked and ridiculed him and sent him out. Thus, he was broken hearted and disappointed. He decided to stop reaching out for God but to maintain his fellowship with God and seek him earnestly. He completed his studies and joined a company for work. He had been prompted by God to share the gospel with his friend Durai who was working with him. But he hardened his heart and did not pay heed to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. One day Durai lost his life in a tragic car accident. On hearing the tragic end of Durai without knowing Christ Jesus, Kumar was pricked by his guilty conscience. He fell into a state of depression. It took years for him to come out of it. As Kumar was fearful and timid, he had to encounter such problems. 

 

Prophet Jeremiah prophesied against the king of Judah and the Jews lived in the kingdom. So, they cast him into a dungeon, where there was no water but mire. So, Jeremiah sank in the mire. When he was likely to die from hunger, Ebed-Melech spoke to the king courageously and rescued Jeremiah and saved his life. The entire kingdom was plotting to kill Jeremiah but what Ebed-Melech did bravely was highly appreciable.

 

Beloved, suppose Jeremiah had sunk and died in the mire, he would have been in God’s presence only. But in our day to day life we see people falling into the mire of sin and heading towards eternal death. We are liable for rescuing and saving them from the mire of sin. Are we like Kumar without courage and bravery? Or like Ebed-Melech ready to lift them from the pit? Where are courageous and brave Ebed-Melech?
