Only Once

 

“I must work the works of Him who sent Me…”- John 9:4

 

The pithy statement displayed on the bulletin board made me think. The statement written was “You shall pass through this world but once. Any good that you can do or any kindnesses that you can show to any fellow being, do it now”

 

Our life is a precious treasure given as a gift in our hands. We pass through this world only once. We cannot lead a reckless life. How much time do we spend with our Lord? Have we invested in heaven by winning souls for Christ? How do we view the troubles and suffering permitted by God in our lives?

 

Christ Jesus bore our sins and suffered for us on the cross. Through his death, we received perfect peace, love, forgiveness of sins and eternal life. He endured the physical abuse and torture to redeem us and to make us righteous. He fulfilled His Father’s will and His purpose on Earth, and He is sitting at the right hand of the Father now.

 

In the book of Acts, we read about Apostle Paul. God specially chose Paul to proclaim the gospel to the gentiles. He was set apart for this crucial role. But what a lot of troubles and sufferings he encountered! As a minister of Christ, he laboured more abundantly. His deep concern for all the churches came upon him daily. He brought eternal life to others through his sufferings. He bore the marks of Christ in his body. When such a chosen minister of God suffered so many hardships, how much more we who are nothing must suffer?

 

Dear children of God, we may be passing through the sea of trouble and misery. But we need not get dejected and feel depressed. These troubles will take us to the kingdom of God. The worldly sufferings are not permanent. Let us lead a life that is acceptable to God and beneficial to the others amid our sufferings.
