“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” - Mathew 5:9
In a Christian family there was some disagreement between the uncle and brother-in-law regarding the construction of the house. They avoided their casual talk and stopped visiting each other. When they happened to meet in church or on the road, they pretended to overlook each other. The construction work was underway. A plumber who was a non-Christian was doing the plumbing work. He was familiar to both of them. He came to know about their misunderstanding and tried set right everything. Whenever he met the uncle, he said “It was not the fault of the brother-in-law. You could have refrained from speaking like that”. When he happened to meet the brother-in-law he said, “Your uncle cannot be blamed. You should not have done it in anger.” He kept on trying for a month for their compromise. At last, they came to peace. Both of them reconciled with each other. Although the plumber did not get to know Jesus, his efforts for bringing peace and his goodness are highly appreciable.
In the Holy Bible Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called son of God”. In the Old Testament we read about Esau and Jacob, the twin brothers. Jacob was a liar, deceiver and a fighter in his youth. But later he longed to appease with his brother and to reconcile with him. He deceived Esau and received his father’s blessings, but he was willing to share them with his brother. God desires such peace to prevail everywhere.
Beloved, God will not accept our gift if we offer it with grudges against someone. We need to reconcile with them and then come to the altar. Let us seek peace and pursue it. Let us be peace makers who lead the others to find peace and become sons of God. The Lord of peace will grant peace to everyone who seeks His face.
