Gossiping 

 

“…and whisperer separates the best of friends” - Proverbs 16:28

 

I met a colleague in my workplace. He started gossiping about a few of my other colleagues. He said this because 'he is concerned about me'. Days passed by and he started gossiping about lot of others too. Hatred started to root in me. Whenever i met whoever, he gossiped about the hatred inside me prevented me from approaching them. But this gossiper was casually mingled with everyone without second thoughts. On a Sunday service the preacher was someone who was gossiped about by this gossiper. When the preacher started preaching God spoke to me clearly that "Why are you looking others, why do you harbor hatred for something said by someone?" The next day i went to the preacher and congratulated him for his wonderful touching message and compromised with him. God graciously helped me to approach this gossiper and tell him kindly that "Stop gossip about others to me ". From that day on I won't stand where people gossip about others. My hatred has changed too. 

 

If someone is gossiping about third person, try to change the topic or try to end the conversation by saying some positive things about the third person. Gossiper will be calmed on hearing this. "Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Leviticus 19:16 says "Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord". My dears, many a times we gossip about others unknowingly, but the Bible is against it. 

 

There is a proverb in Spanish "Whoever gossip to you will gossip about you". So let us stop gossiping or listening to gossips and live with a good heart, without hatred.
