Only way
“Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though they join forces, none will go unpunished” - Proverbs 16:5
We can read about a man called Aman in the Book of Esther. Shall we look at an incident happened in his life?
Ahasuerus a king who ruled 127 countries, from India to Ethiopia. He lifted up Haman above all those who were in the kingdom. Everyone in the kingdom bowed and payed homage to him. Mordecai the close relative of the Queen Esther used to sit on the entrance of the palace. He was a Jew, so he didn't bow nor payed homage to Haman. This made Haman furious, and he decided to kill all the Jews in the kingdom.
One day the King and Haman were invited to the Queen Esther's party. On returning home he was irritated to see Mordecai didnt respect him, took his wife's and friend's advice and made gallows to hang Mordecai to death. But Haman was hanged to death instead of Mordecai.
Haman had lot of good things in his life. But despite being in the highest position in the palace, he was furious about a small issue and lost his life. We are like Aman "expecting others to respect us, pay homage or honor us", those who don't do this to us, are we making them suffer or stopping good things from happening to them? Are you taking pride in "Who am I? How big is my post? How much assets do I possess? How many degrees do I have?" And expecting others to respect you based on this is an expression of sin.
My beloved! In this society we live in, mentality of can't withstand the advancement of others, jealousy, wanting to destroy others, things that are done to increase status, all these will destroy the society. To change the society for good is to change an individual from this mentality. Only God can give freedom from sin in an individual's life. So let us all pray for this society to witness God.
