Love is greatest

 

“…now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – I Corinthians 13:13

 

Joseph Damien a priest from Belgium went to Hawaii to share the gospel with the lepers. He tried to maintain friendship with the lepers, but they didn't accept him. He built a church and conducted mass there, but nobody attended. He helped them with all his strength but no use even after 12 years. After that he decided to go back, and he saw few white spots in his hands with no feeling on those areas.  

 

He found that he got leprosy and went back to them and shared the gospel. But he loved them with the same love. Soon the news spread to the villagers and that week the church was filled for the first time. That crowd gathered because he showed the same love even after getting leprosy. And all those who came there accepted Jesus.  

 

This love is what Jesus expects from us. Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

(Matthew 22:37‭, ‬39). To love God and humans our self should die, if not our pride and selfishness will take over, there won't be love. We will have faith and hope automatically if we love God. Christ will fill our lives. If we love others, we will express love in our actions and words. If our incomplete life is completed by Christ, our life will be filled with love. 

 

Amy Carmichael said, "We can give without having love, but we can't have love without giving". My dear! In our lives which is greater? Holy Spirit says, "Love is greatest". We can know that Love is great from the life of Joseph Damien. We will shine bright if we show love in our lives. Kings will be guided to Christ through our light.
