Meaningful Christmas in ministry
“If a man serve me, let him follow me, and Where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour” - John 12:26
He was an "old young man" aged 65. Majestic in his walks, no chappals on his feet. Wearing dhoti and jippa. Jolna bag on a shoulder in it was a Bible, a tambourine, on the other shoulder was a harmonium, on his back a gunny bag to spread on the floor and sit on it and a pair of dress. He will walk wherever he go. If possible he will travel on bullock cart. Where will he go? To villages to preach about Jesus Christ! Whenever he enters a village, children come rushing to him happily saying, "hey grandpa came".
Grandpa would spread the gunny bag on the floor in an evening under a street light and unpack his equipments. He will take the Bible and harmonium out. He will sing and praise God loudly. Children will sit around him. Villagers will also gather around him. Grandpa's song ministry will begin. Devils will run away and sickness will be healed during his worship. After the worship if someone invites him for food, he will go without any hesitation. He will spread his gunny bag on the sit out, sleep on it using his towel to cover him after blessing the family. He will wake up at 4am, pray loudly. Then he will bath in a nearby river or pond and continue his journey. He is evangelist Arumainayagam.
The next day he will preach in another village. He wouldn't mind if there are any miracles. "Glory be to the Father" these words will come out of his mouth. People will offer rice, cereals, chilli out of love. He will accept that to give them to those who suffer from poverty in the next village he visit. I haven't seen him but my grandpa told this to me. Its not a story but an incident. In his days, everyday is Christmas in those villages. Christmas will begin in few poor people's houses after those things he gave them.
My dear friends those who are reading this. Ministry is not a livelihood. It is God's calling. Jesus Christ made this honourable ministry as he thought we are truthful. Each soul winning day is a Christmas for us. If our ministry is meaningful, Jesus Christ will born daily in the hearts of those friends we meet daily. Hallelujah.
