Forgive and forget
“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” – Matthew 6:14
Trisha was running and calling out her friend “Nisha, Nisha!” Trisha and Nisha were thick friends doing 7th standard. They went together everywhere. Nisha was fond of flowers. She was in the habit of collecting pictures of flowers on stickers, greeting cards, papers and calendars. If she found any picture of flowers, she would pick them and keep them as a treasure.
One day she saw the previous year calendar lying in her classroom. There were pictures of lovely flowers for all the twelve months. Nisha was delighted to see the flowers. Nisha took it with her thinking that the old calendar was no longer useful to anyone. The next day the teacher was searching for that calendar because she had noted some important details on it. She enquired the children and found that it was taken by Nisha. Just then Nisha entered in. The teacher shouted at her angrily and asked how she could take the calendar without her permission. Nisha said quietly with tears, “Sorry, miss. I thought it was a discarded one. Here after I will not take anything without your permission.” The teacher had no intention to forgive her. A placard with the notice “I am a thief” was hung around Nisha’s neck and she was taken on rounds to all the classrooms as an act of shaming her. All the children laughed at her. Nisha was embarrassed and she could not bear the disgrace and humiliation she encountered. That evening as soon as she went home, she confined herself to her room. She was ruminating on what had happened in school. She was depressed and so avoided meeting anyone. She refused to go to school out of fear, shame and ridicule. Her friend Trisha felt her absence very much. How sad it was to know that the bright future of the child was marred and ruined by the unforgiving nature of the teacher. If the teacher had forgiven and showed consideration, how pleasant and meaningful her life would have been!
Dear sister and brother, we must be ready to forgive others of their faults. We must forgive whole heartedly even the people who were against us and our family once, when they come after a change of heart asking for forgiveness. Then only Jesus can forgive all our sins and bless us.
