My India

 

“Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” - Romans 13:7

 

As a citizen of India, Bible teaches us some basic duties we should follow. If we do it right our country will be blessed. We will be blessed as well. Shall we look at those duties?

 

1. Paying taxes: (Matthew 17:24-27)

A big issue in our country is black money. Despite the actions our central government takes, due to hoarding black money our government can't go further and is limping. As Christians, if we pa our taxes properly our country will be blessed. We all know that Jesus paid taxes for Him and His disciples, don't we?

 

2. Respecting those who hold power: (1 Peter 2:17)

Bible teaches us that the government officers are made by God, and we should honor them. It is ignorant to say "I am a child of God and I don't honor anybody else". We should honor an officer even if he is lacking character and accepting bribes. We should do it from our heart and not just facial expression. In the same time, if officers or laws are a hindrance for us to share the Gospel then we doesn't have to obey them. Non-religious conversion laws shouldn't stop us. Once an officer threatened Peter not to share the Gospel. But Peter said, "We must obey God rather than human beings" (acts 5:29).

 

3. Praying for the country: 

It is our duty to praise and pray to God for everyone. Let us praise God for the railway staffs and officers when we travel by train. Let us pray for the soldiers protecting us and standing in the border. How important is a foundation for a luxury building, us Christians and our prayer is equally important for India. Those who obey God will obey the government and live as a good citizen.
