A life of slavery ?
“But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” - Romans 6:17
I remember a story which I read when I was an young boy. During the war between two nations, the victorious king will take the defeated king, his citizens, his belongings, goats, cows, valuable jewels, his crown, rings, swords and his army. It is not that easy to escape slavery once brought as a slave to another country. They might be slave till death. Let us meditate about a man who was sold as a slave and God lifted him up to great heights.
In the Bible, if we hear someone who was sold and lifted up by God and it reminds us of Joseph. He wasn't born as a slave but sold as one. Though he underwent punishment for things he didn't do he was under the hand of God because God was with him. ( genesis 39:2) If we say it in other words, we can say that he was very close to God. How is our relationship with God? His master saw him as a successful man. Does it amazes us that Joseph ran away from sexual sins of youth? How much effort does we take to lead a holy life! When he saw the saddened faces of the butler and the baker who were imprisoned with him, he enquired them with love. Do we enquire about their problems help if we see those around us when they are sad? Do we live with a mind set of I myself have 1008 problems so I can't be bothering about others? let us think. The king was a amazed to see his intelligence in interpreting the dream and he gave all the glory to God by saying "Do not interpretations belong to God". It made the king to appoint Joseph as the prime minister of Egypt and the king gave him his signet ring, clothed him in garments of finest linin, put a gold chain around his neck and had him ride his second chariot.
My dear friends as you are reading this, are you enslaved in something and struggling to come out of it! The God Who was with Joseph will be with us. He is capable to free us from bondages. Let us have faith, surrender ourselves, God will lift us up. Hallelujah!
